First Haircut

Brock finally had his first haircut! It was getting a little out of control in the back and was getting in his eyes in the front. He was a very good boy and sat in the toy car while the woman cut his hair. He wasn't crazy about getting his hair wet and combed, but he didn't make too much of a fuss. We think he looks very handsome :) Here is a before and after.

Christmas in Kentucky

Brock had LOTS of fun visiting all of his relatives in Kentucky. He played with cousins and opened lots of neat presents. He was a trooper during the whole visit and properly adhered to his nap schedule :) We all look forward to visiting again soon!

Wiggleworms comes to an end

Our last Wiggleworms class was at the end of December. Brock loved it and had so much fun with Miss Julie and all of his friends. He is going to try out some other classes and then he may try Wiggleworms again.

Thanksgiving

Brock spent his second Thanksgiving in Chicago this year. Since he was sick we had to cancel our trip to Louisville for the holiday. But don't worry! He still had a turkey dinner and had a visit from his Cici to make the holiday special.

First Steps!

Brock took his first steps on November 24th. Since then he hasn't really stopped! The same day that he started walking we had an ER visit when he woke up with croup! Since we weren't able to travel for Thanksgiving he worked on perfecting his skills over the weekend.

Party with Friends!

After his family party, Brock had a party and invited lots of his friends. He had so much fun visiting and playing with all of his visitors!

Brock turns One!

Brock celebrated his first birthday on November 14th! He loved his cake and had lots of fun opening his presents. He especially loved his chair from his mom and dad :) He had a family only party on his actual birthday where he ate pizza for the first time and got his own cake. Everyone loved watching him!

Brock and the Kitties

Brock is obviously very interested in the cats and they are slowly but surely becoming a little more interested in him. They don't run off quite so fast and Maddie even lets him get in a pat or two. We remind him to be gentle as he tries to grab their tails and poke their ears. At least someone is giving them attention :)

Shoes!

Brock went for his first official shoe fitting! He was sized and outfitted with two pairs of Stride Rites. One for inside and one for out. He is a Size 5 which the woman said was big for his age. He is lukewarm on them right now. He would rather be barefoot, but since winter will be here fast, that isn't really an option. I think they are super cute.

I know what Brock needs

Clearly more toys. He is so deprived. I was organizing all of his stuff and decided just to dump everything out to see what the situation was. It was a pile so big he could barely look over it! He is not even a year old and we have already accumulated quite a bit. It adds up quickly!

Happy Halloween!

Brock was a pirate for Halloween. So cute. I put the costume on him and it didn't phase him. He continued to play and read his books. He was fine with the hat and jacket. After a photo shoot here we headed to a friend's house to help hand out candy. It was an eventful first Halloween!

Early Birthday Present

Because Brock will get many things for his birthday, and because his mother is very impatient, he opened an early birthday gift. He is the proud new driver of a Radio Flyer walker wagon. As you can tell he is quite fond of it. He loves putting his toys in and out. He isn't walking with it yet, but it will come soon enough. There isn't a chance of him sneaking up on you, as it is quite loud. But at least not with a song and lights.

Hair

As Brock's hair gets longer I am debating what to do about it! He may get a trim soon in the back. It is hard to believe at one time he didn't have much of it. I love how it curls up after a bath. Adorable!

Sippy Cup!

After practicing drinking from a big boy cup, Brock is starting Sippy cups. He is now able to hold it up all by himself. However, he likes having help every once in a while.

Books!

It is quickly becoming obvious that Brock is a reader. He loves playing with books. He is turning the pages and every morning goes to his bookshelves to make his selections. We have put all of the nice paper books away so he can play with all of his board books. He is also loving the puzzles with the big knobbed pieces. That makes it nice due to all of the space his toys are taking up. There isn't much more room for the big things, but the books and puzzles will fit!

Winter Wear!

As it gets colder, we are finding the need to dress Brock in his winter wear. Although it is quite a pain, he looks so cute in it that it is hard to complain. He seems to like his hats. And it has given his mom another reason to buy some cute stuff.

Tunnel

Brock now has a tunnel. He has crawled in a few times when tempted by some toys inside. He likes shaking it and watching the cats or his mom and dad through the other side. Also nice is that it folds away to store in his closet.

Spa time

Brock had his first bubble bath tonight. He played around with the bubbles but then went straight for his basketball toy. He was trying to show he is all boy.

Beep Beep!

Brock has taken his first ride (as the driver). He had a nice set up with his bottle and a seat belt of course. After taking a spin down the hall we went around the neighborhood. I would say he is a pretty good driver. We plan on packing in more rides before the winter sets in.

Story Time

Brock is enjoying story time more and more! He reads a story before naps and before bedtime. His favorite books are the ones that he can feel or have raised characters. His current favorites are The Very Hungry Caterpillar and Ten Little Fish. He also likes to play in his book bins when he is crawling around and leaves them all over the place. Sounds like another guy who lives here.

REALLY pulling up!

So as I have posted previously, Brock knows how to pull up. Now he is REALLY pulling up. Lots. In his toy bins, in his bed, on the couch, on our legs and anywhere else! He also stood without holding anything for a few seconds the other day. Then he plopped on his rear. One of his favorite things to do is pull up to me and play with my necklace. Maybe that is a sign he is going to buy his mom lots of jewelry.

Trip to Louisville

Brock and I went to Louisville for several days and he got to do lots of visiting. It was quite a fiasco, as we had to wait in the Louisville airport for FIVE hours because of the winds from hurricane Ike. Brock was as good as could be expected given the circumstances. That may be our last trip by ourselves for a bit. In any case, he had a great time!

Big Boy Carseat

Due to his feet hanging over the edge, Brock is now in his big boy carseat. He seems to like it pretty well. He isn't a huge fan of the carseat overall, but he likes this one better. This was taken on our way to the zoo!

Teeth!

Brock now has two teeth. They are not all the way out yet but are definitely half way out. They are the bottom front two. It is cute seeing the little white specks when he smiles. He also seems to be in a great mood overall since their arrival. I can imagine that it didn't feel great.

Wiggleworms

Brock started his Wiggleworms music class today. I was so sure he would be shy and maybe a little scared but that wasn't the case. He took off after the guitar and then shook his maraca the whole time. Not to mention his rocking to the music and giggles throughout the song. He was an A+ student. Not that they gave grades. But if they did he would have been in the top of his class.

Back to School

Tuesday was my first day back to work with the kiddies at school. I will be working on Mondays and Tuesdays and Brock will be hanging out with his friend Grace. It is so nice because they have the same exact birthday! I can only imagine what they will be into!

Family Luau

Brian and I had a luau party to attend and dressed Brock up in his shirt just for fun. The party wasn't really for babies. But mom and dad sure did have fun. Clearly he has figured out that something is not quite right.

Pulling Up

Well that was fast! Soon after crawling, Brock is now pulling up. He has only done it a few times, but is pretty determined. He has pulled up on many things both stable and not. The Bentley household is not quite ready for this so we are encouraging him to stay close to the ground :) It is amazing how fast he is growing!

Crawling

Brock is now crawling and while he may not be fast, he certainly is sneaky. He heads straight for the cords the minute someone walks out of the room. He went straight from rolling around to up crawling on his hands and knees. There will need to be extensive babyproofing in the Bentley household.

New Blog!

I am going to work on figuring this out so that family and friends can keep up with Brock and the rest of the Bentley Family. It is difficult to keep all of Brock's friends updated via phone and e-mail so hopefully this is the solution!
